Tree Planting: Season 4 (2019).
This summer was my final season planting in the Canadian “bush.” Very bittersweet saying goodbye to faces I had become so accustomed to seeing every summer. I realized having spent four seasons equating to a year in a tent, that it was probably time for me to move on. When something no longer serves you, nor do you resonate with the work the way you once did, the best thing you can do for yourself is to let go and move on. I am grateful for all the film prints I collected as they have kept my memories tangible and alive to this day. It’s a beautiful analogy to think of the hard work of planting tress into forests I may never see, knowing that they will grow alongside me with a quiet resilience that only the elements can challenge. Looking back at my time spent in the Canadian wilderness, it will be with nothing but fondness. Once you leave the “bush” that sense of innate belonging that the planter community creates always stays with you, quietly greeting you every spring calling you back, regardless of how long you’ve been away.
